i’ve been thinking about us quite a bit recently, and i suddenly realized how much i miss you. i mean, not the kind of missing someone where all you do is cry and tell people how miserable you are and eat Ben & Jerry’s all night…but the nostalgic kind of missing. it’s the tightness in my chest and the honeysuckle memories clamoring around inside my brain. it’s the crumpled up song lists that you made me, hidden away in an old backpack. it’s the picture of us from three years ago, tucked under my nightstand. it’s the kind of missing you where i carry on through the day and put on a smile made of gold. it’s me: painting the picture of a sunny spring day, when in reality there’s only a blizzard inside of me. not a sad and tender and thoughtful rainstorm, but an icy, treacherous blizzard. a land of snow capped mountains and broken trees and frozen ponds & not an creature in sight. when you were in my life, it was a beautiful summer day in my heart. it was a dreamland with a big bright sun and Bob Dylan playing among lush treetops. it was like a dream. maybe it was a dream.

old friend winter has set in now, because he knows i miss you. i thought for a while that i might try and get acquainted with him and maybe even accommodate a little, however…i’m beginning to think he’s overstayed his welcome…
